Here’s our Day 5 Exercise: Set Your DONE Time
- Unplug by 8 pm. Totally. Bonus points if you do it earlier.
- With the inundation of virtual interactions right now, we’re hammered in an unprecedented way with screen time right now. It’s going to take a toll if you don’t recognize that it will – and then manage it. We’ll unwittingly disconnect due to fatigue and burnout we don’t recognize.
Like my friend and colleague Eric Partaker instructed in his useful newsletter, “Try to limit your meeting slots to only half of your day.” He’s spot on: Limits, people. We all need to implement them.
- Be fully aware we have 24 hours in each day; at least 7 – 8+ should be sleep – then do the math on what’s realistic to keep you healthy and sane for the rest of them.
- The gift of this crazy time (to remember all the time) is that clarity is righteous. (also why I’m co-hosting theClaritySummit2020 with kickin’ colleague Lisa Pezik this fall…) YOU and you alone are in charge of your schedule. No excuses or passing the buck on this one. Connectors take ownership and responsibility.
- Go to your calendar right now. Decide when you’re going to be done for the day. We schedule our start, though rarely schedule our finish. However you track your days, write or record in it right now for the DONE time, for your work days.
- Do it for the rest of the month. Yes, you heard me – write in your finish time for April 2020 in your calendar now….
- Record your exercise, observations and breakthroughs in your Guidelog, where you’re tracking your Challenge. I’ve been doing it with you, as I promised and am discovering some helpful insights and reactions myself.
Connecting with the value of the hours of your life are crucial in determining where you invest them. Setting a DONE time is effective and simple method of teaching yourself that your time is valuable and you’re in control of it.
A challenge is designed for growth. If this feels hard, well, it’s not designed to help you skate on by – to magically become better connected with yourself and others with little effort. It’s designed to push you, nudge you and boost your skills and movement.
